Master fabric upholstery care in 3 simple steps. Preserve beauty and longevity with expert techniques. Elevate your furniture’s life today!

It can be expensive to purchase a new couch or have an old piece of furniture recovered or re-upholstered, so you probably like to do these things occasionally. A well-maintained piece of furniture can live for a very long time; a lifespan of more than ten years is not unheard of. What can you do to ensure that your home’s furniture lasts as long as possible? We at Absolute Upholstery will respond to this question with a few straightforward bits of advice that, if taken to heart, will make your couch or armchair last two times as long as your previous pieces of furniture.

Avoid Eating on Your Furniture

It may sound like a no-brainer at first, and I’m sure you’ll keep anyone who even mentions eating off of your new couch. However, if you grow a little lazier with time, stains and crumbs will probably start seeping into your furniture’s fabric.

What harm can a few crumbs or a few spills possibly do? Well, many stains are difficult to remove or simply unremovable. Red wines, hot cocoa, oily foods, pasta sauces, and others can leave stains that might not come off. If not cleaned right away, most of these stains will stay on your furniture and make it look dirty. Eating on a couch can leave stains, but it can also leave behind food crumbs or other debris. If not removed right away, they risk getting trapped in the sofa’s fabric and being crushed. The growth of bacteria, including the E. coli strain, can be inhibited by these crumbs or particles trapped in your couch’s cushions. You don’t want E-coli, a bacterium that is present in sewage and faeces, on your furniture.

Consider Using Fabric Protections

Applying a few applications of fabric shield to your sofa to protect it may be one of the best preventative measures you can do to preserve its longevity. This fabric shield prevents liquids from penetrating fabrics by forming an impenetrable barrier. While the product is a terrific approach to prevent the occasional disaster, you must clean up the spills right away. Since these anti-stain coatings aren’t permanent, you must regularly apply them to work at their best. To prevent stains and dirt from trapping beneath a layer of protector, you must apply the fabric shield only to clean fabrics.

Regularly Clean Your Fabric Upholstery

Your couch will last longer if you regularly clean it and will also seem brand new. Cleaning your couch or other fabric-upholstered furniture with a vacuum will help get dirt and dust off the fabric. Did you know that dust mites excrete twice as much daily as their body weight? What do dust mites eat, though? Unfortunately, they feed on the skin cells we constantly lose; I know, it’s disgusting. Regular vacuuming will get rid of dust mites as well as these skin cells. Dust mites and faeces have been connected to health implications like asthma and allergic responses. So, pull out the vacuum and start cleaning.

If you follow the advice mentioned above, you may relax (on your couch), knowing that the cost of purchasing new or recovered furniture is a long way off.
