Do you have an extremely desirable outdoor area, such as a balcony, terrace, or backyard? You should consider yourself lucky. You can make the most of your property by outfitting your outdoor area with patio furniture. Your outdoor furniture needs to be weather-resistant. Whenever there is a chance of rain, you must unzip the cushion covers and bring them inside. You may have already committed this error by choosing materials that are neither waterproof nor even sun-proof, ruining part of your patio furniture.
You can replace and furnish your outside area for hundreds of dollars, or you could just reupholster your current patio furniture. Reupholstering your furniture with the right materials will make it survive longer and give your outdoor area a brand-new aesthetic. Here’s how to reupholster your patio furniture:
Take Measurements
Measuring is the first step in any reupholstering project. Take out your measuring tape, paper, and pen, and write down all of the measurements in as much detail as you can, whether it’s for a sunshade, awning, or cushion for a bench or chair. Take note of the furniture’s height, diameter, depth, and width. Don’t forget to add a few additional centimetres for seams. Remember that you will need two identical-sized pieces of cloth for each side of the cushions.
Choose Your Fabric
Durability is the most important factor to take into account when selecting a fabric for outdoor furniture. Ensure the items you see online or in person are designed for outdoor use. Outdoor furniture must be covered with fabric that is mildew and fade-resistant. A colour wheel is useful when analysing hues. Utilising this tool can help you choose complementary or other coordinating colours. Think about the kind of pattern. A contemporary appearance is provided by geometric prints, stripes, chevrons, or an abstract pattern. Traditional designs use floral or botanical motifs, but you might want something tropical with palm trees, bright blooms, or broadleaf vegetation as your motif choice.
Off With the Old
To remove the old fabric, use a utility knife or seam ripper to cut through the seams. Examine the cotton batting with great care. Replace it if it is really worn out or very old. If you can, cut new pieces using the existing batting as a template. If not, simply wrap the new batting around the cushion foam and measure and cut as necessary. Hot glue the new piece to the foam after wrapping it around it. Remember to add the extra inches for overlap or seam allowances when cutting the new cloth to size using the previous piece of fabric you removed as a pattern. If the old fabric cannot be seen through the new fabric, it may also be covered without being removed.
On With the New
Applying the new cloth using a glue gun is like wrapping a gift. Place the new fabric wrong side up and on a flat surface. Place the cushion on the fabric so that the bottom of one end adheres to it. The fabric’s other end completely encircles the cushion, overlapping the glued edge and finishing just within the edge. There, tuck it under and glue it to the cushion’s edge. Each end has been polished to resemble a present box. Excess fabric is removed to enable the edges to be precisely folded and adhered.
